bow design

 In the bowyers biblel there is a design that Tim Baker recomends 1.5" wide in the center 2' and then tapers to 1/2" nocks, bends in the handle and out limb tips are stiff. I have a yew stave that is 62" long and about 2" wide. Is this a good design for this yew stave?

forgot to add that I would like to make a 50lb bow at 26"-27".

  Very durable design if you don't mind shooting around a 1 1/2" wide handle area. I think the more standard designs used on good bow woods are far superior. The bow he speaks of his probably a red oak or pecan board. Not 1st team bow woods.

Badger what would you consider a better design if you mind sharing. This is my first yew bow.

   I would go with a regular american longbow with 4" handle 2" fades,  1 1/2 inches wide and just past mid limb taper down to about 3/8 tips with some overlays. Thats been a proven design for many many years and with a good wood like yew I think you would be very happy with it.

Yew can handle pretty much any design, you can have a 1" wide handle, and 2-3" long fades to 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" wide for the middle 2/3rd of the bow, tapering to the tips.
Make it bend through the handle, or at least right up to it.

  Heres one I just recently finished. 62" yew self bow, 50#@27".  A little closer to a pyramid than usual. Bow has rings thinner than paper and cracks all over it. I was amazed it held up and shoots great.

Thanks Badger and Wizardgoat. I am really getting excited about this one. I have been getting into the bendy handles lately but that stiff handle Badger posted looks awesom.
