Hello all from Michigan
« on: November 16, 2015, 08:36:10 pm »
Just thought I would introduce myself , my name is Dan Dodge and have just started building bows since Febuary 2015 and find it very fun and gratifing, I have made 1 bow that survived so far, it is a hickory board bow 68"  and 48lb@28". It has the dreaded gull wing effect now that I have shot about 500 arrows through it( didn't reflex the tips). But I now am working on a hickory stave that I cut in April and I'm at the tillering stage. I sinew backed it might also put rawhide on it so I can paint or stain it.
Anyway I hope to meet a lot of great bowyers here and make some friends along the way.

Welcome.  There are a lot of members on here from Michigan.  You need to make it to the Marshall primitive shoot next year.  That's a good place to learn from some of the best.

I already have an Osage stave rough out with sinew on it, will start that one in about 6 months, I made the fades 1 1/2" for about 2/3 of the limb then tapering to 5/8 nocks, I have plenty of wood to work with as its about 3/4 thick or so right now, it is 60" ttt and I'm going to shoot for 60 lbs@ 28".

I went to that back in May and met some great bowyers there and will be a annual event for me. I met Gary Davis and he showed me a lot of tricks for Osage and tillering, he truely is an inspiration for me to build the olmighty Osage bow as my goal is to build a self bow someday.

Welcome aboard Dan. Look me up at Marshall next spring, I'd like to meet you.

Pearl Drums, I would like to meet you also. Will you be at the pavilion building a bow or 2 ? That is my favorite place to visit with all the bowyers there, besides the shooting is always fun.

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome!!!!
