First sinew job Hickory board molly
« on: August 24, 2015, 03:46:36 pm »
I haven't posted a bow in a while... I discovered knife making but I'm back. I was in the process of making a molly from a hickory board I bought while on vacation and got a wild hair I thought I'd back it with sinew. The board was less than perfect I I figured backing it would add a little margin of safety.  I us ed the PatM method and it turned pretty good.  It's got a month or two of seasoning but here it is so far. Thanks for looking comments are always welcome.

The sinew job looks good. You can draw it into a little more reflex while it is drying and it will give you more when it is dried.

My first sinew job was on a hickory board as well. I was told not to, but I'm glad I did. You don't need to sinew levers on a bow like that. They shouldn't be bending, so basically you just added tip weight out there. Take that sinew and add another layer on the working portions next time.

Looks better than my sinew work.

It's kinda hard to tell but there us  very little sinew on the levers. The  issue I had was that im using back strap sinew from a elk and water buffalo they were real long! I also toasted the belly so I concerned that if I add any more reflex the belly will start to fret. I don't know what do y'all  think?   I don't think it's too late in the seasoning process to add reflex I just dont wanna mess it up. I was also debating flipping the tips just cuz I have a tendency to do stupid things like that  >:D advise would be appreciated  thanks ..and thanks for the earlier replies.

Leave it be. Not much to gain now, just tid bits for the next go round.

After sinewing a bow I place it on the hot water heater in the utility room, out of sight, out of mind!  ;)
