My Latest
« on: August 14, 2015, 04:46:13 pm »
I had a narrow piece of Bamboo and a couple of skinny Yew offcuts so I did the obvious. It's light for most of you guys, 35#@28" but that is my draw weight til I buff up. It's 66" ntn, 1 1/8" wide at the fades and 3/8" tips. Tips are Purpleheart and Boo. Arrow pass is a piece of chew hoof. Handle is part of a jacket I got at the thrift store. I tried to make an R/D with a Perry glue up but I didn't end up with much R or D. It is my first Boo backed bow. The splice turned out good but the backing glue line is a bit fat in a couple of spots. I've put a couple of hundred shot through it. I like it.

Nice work! looks like a snappy shooter and I like that arrow pass a lot. I hope to make something pretty similar with some small yew pieces I have. How did you get the yew flat? Any tips on the glue-up?

Acc. Thanks, I just grabbed it in the vice and used a jack plane. I ran it over the belt sander just to roughen it a bit. I did the same with the boo. I used West Systems Epoxy thickened with Cab-O-Sil. Wrapped it with bike inner tube. I think the parts(2) that didn't make a nice joint were caused by me rocking the billets when I was running them through the belt sander. Fortunately the worst one is under the handle wrap ;) ;)

PD and Badger Thank you Means a lot coming form you too ;D ;D
