new Ipe/Hickory Warbow
« on: February 07, 2008, 07:42:40 pm »
Here are some pictures of my first warbow.  It has a Hickory back, and Ipe belly glued together with Urac185.  It pulls 95# at 32", and is 70" NTN.
I put horn nocks on it, and have yet to really put it through its paces with some shooting.  It's exciting to draw it, anyway.
I really can't wait to see how far it shoots.

Here's a picture with the circle tiller drawn in yellow:

Thanks for looking,
-Ben

Excellent, it's bound to shoot well, especially being fairly short. It would look good with a nice military arrow.

Looks good. Should shoot a good 200 to 250 yards. Take it out to a big field and watch those arrows go!

Great looking bow.  How about some more pictures of the tips and handle and maybe an unbraced profile.  Justin

AHHHH!  I need warmer weather!  All these ipe baked with hickory or boo are inspiring me to no end!!!!!!  I have mine glued up!

Say....how thick is your backing?

Also, how thick was the bellly ipe when you initially glued it up?

Gods below.....is there a more beautiful combo than hickory backed Ipe????  I love the contrast....

I think I might start calling hickory backed Ipe.....Poor Man's Yew!

Thanks for all the nice words.  I actually have two yew staves, just waiting to become bows.  I made this bow to practice the circular tillering, and tillering heavier weight bows.  The Ipe core was 1"thick x 1.5 x 71" when I bought it, and the hickory was ~3/16" to 1/4", I think.  Justin, here are the other pictures that you requested:

That's a cool looking bow. I have an unbacked one in the works. I'll see if I can bop my forehead. ;)
