Bamboo backed Yellowheart
« on: August 07, 2015, 08:17:11 pm »
Finished this bow a few weeks ago.  It's Pau Amarello (Yellowheart) backed with Bamboo in an Deflex/Reflex style.  I've used Yelllowheart before and it makes a good bow when backed.  The wood is not as dense as Ipe but it is just as elastic in compression, not so much in tension.  The difference with this tropical wood is that it can be bent with heat.  The bow is 64" long with shallow D section limbs just under 1 1/4" wide.  It started out with just under 3" of reflex and kept more than half of that tillering it out to 28".  I was going for a bit less draw weight than I ended up with, 57# @ 28", but the tiller was good when I reach my target draw length so I left it.  The bow is fast and shoot quite nicely.  Here's a few pics

Nice as always mark, how much deflex did you put in

Thanks guys

Not quite sure how to answer that bubby.  I usually don't measure the deflex, just put in what looks right to me.  If expressed in degrees I would say around 30

Nice bow Marc. I love that arrow pass.

The tiller is textbook on this one. Great reference for what an r/d should look like drawn and braced.

Nice bow  :)
Pau amerrillo is probably my favourite belly wood now. Easy to work and like you say right up there in elasticity. It takes minimal set even when glued up at ipe dimensions. Great wood.

Looks fast and deadly at full draw, just what I expect to see in one of your bows. Nice work for sure Marc and no doubt a pleasure to shoot.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.
