Man fellas those sure are looking nice! I've got 2 elm saplings to cut down in dad's fence row. I'll be watching this for sure. I would like to save the bark for handle wraps. I think it would be awesome to put its own bark on the handle that was made from the sapling.  Patrick

Patrick that inner bark made some pretty tough cordage, and it was very green. Even after a day of drying the tubes (quivers) of bark Ed peeled off turned quite hard and rigid. Pretty useful tree.

Just grabbed my stave this weekend, actually. Its getting pretty light. Time to cut it in half and let it sit for another few months.
