Hatchet? Cleaver?
« on: July 24, 2015, 11:57:02 am »
I started this one just messing around, not expecting too much. I ended up with more than I expected. 9" overall 4" blade. Walnut with red g10 liners.

Did you make the blade, or was this a re-build?  Either way, it's waaaay to fancy and too pretty for the likes of you.  >:D

I have a newer Old Hickory cleaver that doesn't seem to do all that well except for beheading rogue chickens. I am thinking of moving it into the bowmaking toolbox from the kitchen.  I think I have better control with a cleaver than a hatchet anyway.

Hahaha JW I agree, that's why I'm making a blacked out version next.

It's forged from a leaf spring.

     Clatchet, cleachet? Hatchcleaver?
I have about four "OLD" leaf spring sets, that I am saving for a time when I get my anvil, and a forge set up.  Nice looking set up.  Could hollow out the front a bit more to have a nice point on it, like the prow of the roman, or spartan war boats. ;) Very nice work, nifty, and quite handy piece of back pack tool!
