First here is a picture of two points I bought ,the small black one is from 3 Rivers and the larger and shorter one is from an jumi archery equipment dealer .

First I chuck up a horn tip in the lathe ,the point of the horn ,is the point's tip.

Then using a not so rough round rasp ,on the tool rest ,start rounding the horn.

Then with a triangle file shape the shoulder.

And refine the tang with a flat file.

It should come out of the lathe looking something like this.

Notice the piece of horn in the bottom of the above photo, it is shaped to fit in a three way chuck or a drill.

Now I cut off the flat base at the tang and do the final shaping on a sander.

There you go .I hope I didn't leave anything out.

Good for flight arrows. I often make targetpoints on my lathe. Material: brass, stainless, aluminium. Nocks inn Osage for bambooarrows.

Nice Ralph.

I've done something similar to that and what I did was to chuck the tang of the roughed out point in a drill press and continued using a rasp to finish it off. You can polish it out really well with sandpaper that way also

Thanks guys ,it's a good way to use up the tips of the horns that were cut up for strips .Nocks can be made from the shorter pieces.I still don't know how much they weigh ,Sorry Pappy.

I wait to polish them up after I fit the outside diameter to match the shaft each point is to be mounted in.

Pappy, the biggest point ,the one I made in the photos above weighs 41 grains .The white one weighs 20 grains ,and the smallest point, the black point weighs 15 grains.
