Heat gun test

Would someone do me a favor and see if you can light a piece of paper on fire with your heat gun? I'm suspecting mine has gone west. I tried my kitchen thermometer that goes to 470 degrees and it just overloaded that so I tried to light a piece of newsprint and the best I could do was get it brown. That was holding the paper about 1/4-1/2" from the gun.

Mine will. It goes to over a 1000dgs on High. The new ones have some kind of Safety crap that lets them cool down for awhile. I get mine from Harbor Freight or find an old one at garage sales or the Flea Market.

LOL what are you trying to do
Low end flames are at a minimum of 600-800 degrees.
These are special materials. 
Pure wood and wood products burn at around 1600 degrees F.
Do you need a propane torch?
I know I am not much help but it's an odd question.

Paper is supposed to ignite at around 450 F. My thermometer says my heat gun is putting out a little more than that. Like Mullet says, it's supposed to be 1000F. So I tried to light paper just to see if it would. It wouldn't. I'm thinking one coil is open. I'll take it apart and see.

Oh gosh
If I take it apart it goes to the trash.
You could test it with a ohm meter
if you have one. Nicocad wire is resistive
and you may be able to get the specs
of that resistance off the web.

Took it apart. Everything looks OK. I tried it while it was apart, the fan has two speeds, the element gets hotter on high speed, everything looks like it's working great. I woulda thought that it would light paper. maybe I'm wrong. Mullet, have you actually tried to light paper or are you just assuming, like I was?

Lol don't feel bad.
I just took my outboard engine
starter apart. Put it back together
with paper clips to position the brushes.
I tested it and it burned a hole in my middle finger
while it was spinning real fast.
I ordered a new one this morning.
