Unibond 800 questions.

I have some questions about the use of Unibond 800.  I have no experience with this type glue, all I have used is Titebond and Hide glue.  I have a quart and the hardener so when I mix it up do I mix only the amount I think I will need or do you mix the whole amount and then store it or do you mix it all and throw away what you don't use?  Thanks for the help, I have several backed bows I want to make and am anxious to get started.

You mix it up in the right proportions in the quantity you think you will need. You will learn from experience what is the right amount but you'll always waste a bit of any type of glue.

Just yesterday I glued one trilam with Urac-185 which is actually the same stuff as Unibond. I weighed 100 grams of the liquid plus 13 grams of the hardener according to the recipe, i.e. 100 : 13. Most likely 80 grams would have been enough for 180 cm long trilam (= four surfaces to spread glue) so some stuff sits in the can as a hard cake now.

Better to mix up too little than too much. You have a lot of work time so you can always whip up a bit more quickly if you run short. I hate tossing out expensive glue.

Once can has been opened, ya gotta decide how to store it.  Got recommend from OneBow to store in freezer.  Not fridge.  That's what I been doing and so far so good.

I quit using any precise ratio on adding hardener a while back, I see no difference in the strength.

A friend called Nelson a few years ago and asked about how critical the hardener ratio was when mixing glue, the tech rep said the glue came out the same no matter how much or little hardener you used.

I use flakes of wood as scoops in both the resin and powder, I just get as close as I can. I always have and never have had curing issues.

I have mixed so much of the stuff over the years I just go for what looks like the right consistency, not too thick not too thin.
