3/4" 65# Ipe
« on: February 05, 2008, 06:18:52 pm »
Here is my new hunting bow I finished last week.  It is the first real bend in the handle bow I have made and has a D cross section. It is from an Ipe board Bob gave me.  The handle is horse leather sewn with red thread to match the FF string. I didn't want to put a saddle on a cheetah. It is 69" NTN 3/4" wide at the grip and 3/8"wide at the tips.  The pin nocks are 1/8" wide. It draws 65# at 29". It is smooth drawing and incredibly fast.  Justin

Wow Justin where's the bamboo? ;D Looks great! I wonder if some of the osage nazi /famous bowyers who used to say publicly that ipe was crap are lurking on these forums...

3/4" and 65#'s ;) Very cool!

Rich-loves osage, and an open mind...

I can't believe how narrow you got it, and unbacked. I'm impressed!

Thanks everyone
Dave, yes unbacked
Rich, boo is on the other one. I like an open mind too.
abd, I would love to take credit for the saddle on a cheetah, but I stole the line from Rich Saffold on the string thread.

Lennie, that is funny.  Shouldn't be to much work to carry around should it.
Thanks Gordon, yes 3/4"; a good piece of Ipe really does work miracles. Justin

I'm impressed with its simple functional appearance Justin.
Reminds me that a good hunting bow needs to be kept simple
and not all gussied up. She ought to make meat as she was designed to do.
Very well done Justin! Me like ;D

Thanks Dana, you like my plain Jane hunting bow??
Bob, thank you for the compliments and the wood. I can see why you like the D-bow so much. I cant believe it took me so long to make one.  ::)
Jamie, Ill take that as a compliment. Yes, you better get to building.  Justin
