First kids bow

Hey everyone.  Just wanted to share the little bow I built for my almost 3 year old daughter.  She saw the movie "Brave" the other day and has been asking for one ever since.  I figured I'd jump on it while she had some interest, though she may still be very young.  It was made from an unknown branch that we picked up in a dirt parking lot.  picked it up, roughed out the bow in an hour or two and clamped her down to dry.  She didn't warp at all, so I got lucky there.  It's a Very soft wood, but it is plenty strong for as small as the demand will be on it for this bow.  Backed with the bark.

It sure flings those little arrows around the living room.  Had to already teach her not to shoot the dog  >:(

Aww...nice work on that cool little bow.  Your little girl looks so happy with it.  Way to go, dad. :)

X2 would shoot the dog at 3yo... well if there were no cats inside. Lol

Cool!!! My nephew just had his 3rd birthday a few days ago, and I'm anxiously awaiting the day he wants a real bow. For Christmas I got him one of those plastic bows with the suction cup arrows. Although he shoots it constantly, he's strugging with any basic concept of what it's used for and just flings arrows everywhere, lol. I think I'll wait a little longer for the real thing! Inspiring post, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I can't wait until she's a bit older...already got a nice plum branch about 50" long that'll make a great kids bow :D

A great part of childhood development is providing an environment where imagination is required.  By providing things like a bow or other props she has seen others (real and imagined) have used to affect their environment or change their situation.  This allows kids to act out scenarios where they overcome or accomplish. 

Now, here you just thought you were making a cute bow for an even cuter kid.  Nah, you were enabling her to enact empowering behaviors yielding confidence in problem solving skills and enriching complex thought processes. 

I call this a FATHER'S DAY WIN!
