Snakes are usually on the road to dry out or get warmed up.
Not a real good place to get a meal.
I know from my solar heating experience that surface is key
in heat collection from the sun. perhaps the rinkely mode is
for heat collection???

Muscle contractions help to move the blood and produce heat. Kinda like the way we shiver when we get to cold. My guess is it was trying to speed up the basking process.
