So I wanted to try and photograph a point in the style that I like to post pictures in without using photoshop to get the pretty background. This came pretty close. The point isn't done yet but its getting there. 1 camera, 2 lights, a stick, 2 slabs of soapstone, tripod, and some duct tape......no really I used duct tape to hold the point onto the stick.

About 2-3 years ago I tried putting a point on the end of a stick and doing the same thing, but mine didn't work out so well.

That's one way to do it. Studio like!
I haven't used much savvy doing the points I make.
In hand mostly.
When I used to photograph my collection pieces
I would use a piece of glass blocked off a background
that would show the point/bannerstone etc. best.
That was 35 mm days.
One problems with it is reflection. Mostly overcome
by getting higher than the subject then zooming in.
Best in difused sunlight so no strong shadows are cast.
Focusing on the subject makes the backgroung obscure.
Best with the sun directly overhead and a big enough
shade so that the light comes in equally from all four directions.
I tried this one with just a cloudy sky.

I have been using a makeshift lite box with translucent foam packing on the sides and top and a white posterboard in the back. shing the lites thru the sides to provide a muted lite all around with no shadow. I am thinking of getting an old projector screen and using it for lite diffusion in a box. Its how I made the rhyolite pictures.
