Questiion regarding hackberry

My buddy just cut a hackberry tree and was asking about ring count. Do you want tight rings or bigger rings. The limb wood rings are a 1/8" and the trunk has 1/4" rings. Is there a preference? What style bow fits this wood?

Like most ring porous woods, the important thing is the early/latewood ratio.  Most of my hackberry has thick rings and makes a fine bow.  I have also used thin ringed hackberry like the stave Chris gave me at your house and it makes a fine bow as well.  Josh

There are good bows in there no doubt. For me I treat if just like osage...if it's thick rings selfbow, if it's thin rings rawhide backed.
