Charlie's home grown "2-holer"
« on: May 23, 2015, 03:26:49 pm »

Charlie wanted a bow. Not just any bow, he wanted something with meaning. I said, "I can do that". He cut several trees off his farm and brought em out. I split sealed and stacked them in the corner and took out a couple likely staves. Cut down to size they dried much better and after a year I was whittling this piece into something special. Early on, I noticed that this tree had been hit with rabbit shot 15-20 yrs ago.

The remnants of that red streak are just visible in the handle, to the right of the arrow pass.

I worked through several stages of tillering, heat adjustments, and limb re-alignments before asking  Charlie to pick out the skin and tips he liked. He settled on a dark set of canebrakes and rams horn overlays. His choice turned out to be perfect for the character in this yellow stick.

Now finished, this (once) ugly stick is drawing a smooth 60#@28" and carries a heavy arrow quickly to the target. No question in my mind, this is a serious hunting bow. Enjoy!

And the money shots...

God Bless!

Very nice looking bow.

I cut an Ironwood many years ago that had been hit by bird-shot.  I hope yours fairs better than mine as it exploded on me a few years after I made the bow

That bow is stellar man awesome work. I don't know what I'm more jealous of the bow or all those staves it was sitting on.

Thanks guys! I'm super pleased with this bow. Has a very solid feel about it and shows every sign that it will be around for a few years.
