Hard Maple backed White Oak
« on: May 21, 2015, 06:21:29 pm »
I just realized that it's been a while since I've posted a bow...  I've been working a bit lately with hard maple and quarter sawn white oak - mostly because they're readily available for me, and CHEAP...  This was the first bow that I've built with an elliptical tiller, I know it's not "perfect" (whatever that means) so let me know if it looks a bit off.

Here's the specs:

1/8" Hard Maple backing over Quarter Sawn White Oak
4" handle
2" fades
1 1/2" wide for 15" of the limb, then taper to 1/2" nocks
Purpleheart tip overlays
Handle is deer hide laced with waxed cotton thread
Finish is 8 coats of Teak Oil w/ steel wool between coats

Since this was my first elliptical tiller bow, I decided to go just a wee bit long as a safety precaution, so it's 68" nock to nock for my 27" draw. It draws 48# @ 27"
