I use those floor scraper blades you get at a home depo store , they are used to scrape old tile up , they are a hardened steel , I've used them for trade points also .

I've made scrapers out of various things but by far my favorites are still the straight and gooseneck cabinet scrapers I Ibought 20 years ago. I've found nothing better, they were cheap, and they've made many, many bows.

  I also prefer the cabinet scrapers, both straight and gooseneck. Just the right thickness and hardness and can be sharpened with a file. I sharpen mine quite a bit so after a few years they tend to wear down quite a bit. I then start using them on braced bows so I can get under the string without cutting it.

I sharpened up an old sawzall blade on the back. Squared it off. Wow what a scraper.
What was taking an hour took half that.  THANKS !

I just sharpen a large hunting knife and then put a bur on it using a screwdriver. It's a softer metal than scrapers so it takes a bur with ease. It really hogs off nice curls. I usually get 2 bows done or so before re-sharpening and re-burring.

I don't like to use my knives that way. An old butcher might work good.
