Another wood question

Last spring the city came by and cut trees and brush out of the power line areas.  I saved some American elm
and what they called post or shingle oak. I do not know anything about it. Could it make a descent bow .
I split it then and barked it just now. Wild thing is it POPPED off. 2 pieces about 56" long. Could get 1 or 2
longer bows or some shorties .

Post oak is a white oak species. Good bow wood.

Both post oak and shingle oak make great self bows.  The post oak is indeed a whiteoak and has typically shaped oak leaves.  The shingle oak is a red oak and the leaves are more of a lance shape like live oak.  Josh
