Monofilament Serving

I saw a video recommending this. Any pro's or con's?

Make sure you use the clear stuff,    I've used it on a few bows/strings.  Haven't shot them enough to make a good decision, but I think over time it would break fairly easy at the nocking point.

I hate the stuff, it always seemed to break and unravel while I was shooting in a big tournament and leave me high and dry.

Buy some braided serving, slick it up it paraffin and it will never fail you. I prefer the braided zebra fast flight stuff, you can't wear it out, ever.

I've never used it but I don't think I'd like it. I prefer good ole twisted bow string serving material.

Commercial bow strings, specifically Browning strings, used to be served with monofilament.  I've tried it and don't like it myself

Ahh yes monofilament serving.  I guess I grew up right as that stuff was at the height of popularity.  Back then it was all I had ever seen on a bow string.  It is slick in terms of release but wears out at the nock point and all of sudden you have a miniature, monofilament, slinky hanging off of your bowstring.  It was when I started getting into traditional archery I discovered braided serving and Flemish twist strings and man what an improvement.

Mono,  oh yea, had that when I was  20 yrs. old!

 

Still have a big jig spool of clear and orange when I built strings for Black Widow, in the 90s.
Gary Davis loved the fishn' string!
