Ocean Spray Lump

This is one of the lumps that come on OS. This one is obviously from the knots. I think the width will take care of the knot. The knots that show on the belly picture will be rasped away as I thin it out. When I'm tillering a lump  this size should the belly follow the back or should I just have a flat belly?

Thats a tough call you may end up with a hinge there if you remove to much.

I say leave it stiff for now. Throw it on the tiller tree and slowly check it out.

 I would be little worried about it. The width may not make up for the weakness. The profile of your bow and the cross section is consistent until the knot.

I've workwd a knot like that but it was very close to the handle.

This one is about 4-5" from the fade. Not the best spot.

I've seen a few of those i usually follow the back pretty close, leaving it a little proud to error on the side of caution

I would split the difference between following the back exactly and completely ignoring the lump.

I follow the back on all woods. If it's a sketchy knot and you want to leave it a little stiff that's fine, but sooner or later your gonna need it to work a little
