Recent Maple Takedown

Its 67 NTN ;did not weigh it I thinks its around 38#.  Riser is maple and white oak. Limbs are 3 lams of maple backed with linen.  These things are difficult to build and stay together in one piece. I'm going to concentrate more on 1 piece bows. Tillering is a nightmare, I used 1 tapered lam on the back.  I have 2 sets of limbs for this riser.  About 70 shots thru it.  Took maybe 3/8" of set.  The draw is so smooth.......... 8)

Thanks guys,  the brace looks lower than what it is from the angle.  Its 5 1/2"  normally I dont go higher than 6"

With suck a long stuff part in the middle is brace it a bit higher. It'll shoot a little quicker maybe due to higher tension

1/2" more brace wont do a heck of a lot.  My limb pads are only 7dgs. most guys build them at 11dgs. and I built in very little reflex.  What I'm saying is if the pads were 11dgs. having a 7" brace height same as mine having only 5 1/2" brace.......

 A wooden takedown has to be built different than a FG bow.  This design for wood is under a great deal of stress compared to a 1 piece design.  I have built a few and now I'm understanding the dynamics of this type of build albeit wood.  I can now call it my own.  ;)

Thanks Wiz.  I have attempted a few self bows mostly from saplings, just have not worked out.  Maybe some day  building laminated bows from store wood is my thing at this moment.  I design the bow in many configurations and styles this is what makes it a challenge for me and a learning experience.  I like all bows just not the Wheelie type.  :) they are more of a machine.
