Heat treating question for a sinew backed osage bow
« on: April 21, 2015, 01:55:24 pm »
I don't have a picture but I have a sinew backed osage bow which I recurved the tips far too much.
My question is can I heat the sinewed tips using dry heat to uncurve the tips and not upset the sinew and glue.
The sinew is fully dried.

Thanks

If the tips are static you could remove the sinew from the non-bending portion. A sinew wrap at the termination should hold the remaining sinew securely. You can safely heat the tips then to straighten them some. The sinew and glue can't take much heat.
