ERC advice please.
« on: April 18, 2015, 12:24:09 am »
Im looking at one of these erc boards and was wanting some options.  Looks like some bad knots on one end but I think I cut it down and still have just over 60". Will erc be ok at that length with a hickory backing?  Or would I be wasting my time.  Thanks in advance. Timothy

It depends on your intended draw length and to a lesser degree, intended draw weight.  If your boards are  on the denser side of the ERC spectrum and you employ a full bendy handle design, 45-50# & 26" should be in the realm of possibility.  Josh

Guess I could have mentioned that part. I draw 28. Hunterbob came up with idea to rip it and splice the good ends together.  And leave it long.  Anyway thanks for the help.

Can you get enough wood if you remove the knotty sections and splice the remainder at the handle. If you're lucky you might get more than 60".

Pat. The guy sent me some more detailed pics and if I rip it in half I will have one clean 60" x 3/4" board.  And one the same size with knots all down it.  The knots run on one side of it for 60" and the the rest of the 73" stave is big knots. Im waiting for the yew.
