If I was more artistic I'd painted it a burnt orange color and put lighter colored rings on the front and back so it would look like a big osage log

I hope you glued before you used screws to put your camper together. Having traveled to New Mexico 11 times the past  winters I have had to tighten screws back up many times.  You may not have the problem that regular size travel trailers have but those  things rock back and forth all the way down the road and things come loose all the time.  Your "pop up" may not do that quite as bad because it is low to the ground but it will rock a bit and screws will come loose.  I know if I ever buy another camper I will pay the extra bucks for aluminum studded walls. 

Nice looking rig and looks to be a fun project to put together.  Thanks for the up dates.

I am really enjoying seeing this come together Clint.  What type of paint did you use for it?

Jeb, we used liquid nails on the roof but just screws everywhere else.  Hope it stays tight.  I'll have it anchored securely.

Falcon, I used an industrial exterior enamel gloss paint


Well, we just about have it finished.  I put a second coat of paint on it at 6:30 this morning.  I sealed the inside with polyurethane to.  We put some corner trim on the front and back roof edge and along the corners of the bottom half.  I still need to put the corners on the top half.  We drilled a hole on each corner and made metal rods to slide in to hold the top half up.  We installed the windows today to.  I need to figure out the door latches to.  That shouldn't be to hard.  When we had it raised I had plenty of room to stand up inside.  It should work just fine.  The corner trim and windows make it look less redneck I think.

Good point JW.  It is a special place.

     Good idea, to make it removable, just not too easily removed.   Wouldn't want it to come off while on the way to the Classic!   And don't let them make fun of your having to stand on a bucket to kick a duck in the butt!  Besides, you will notice that Mullet will be hanging around you a lot at the Classic to make himself look a bit taller!   So you will have excellent company, while others will have to mingle to find someone to talk to.  You will be able to talk to Eddie, and gain a wealth of knowledge, while providing a service to him.

I think it needs the edges radiused a 1/4" and 3 feathers stuck on the back to improve the aerodynamics?    
Mind you gotta stick the feathers on dead straight, you don't want her spinning when you get up to speed

I sprayed all the seams on the roof with flex seal and put a super heavy 3rd coat of paint on it.  I'm feeling much better about it now.  It's all loaded up and ready for the maiden voyage.  I'm heading towards Twin Oaks first thing in the morning.

Sure wish I was making it to tenersee this year...I'd bring me sum pink spray paint and write Hillbilly Deluxe all over that thang
