South Carolina Knap-in
« on: April 06, 2015, 12:06:43 pm »
The Archaeological Society of South Carolina is hosting a Knap-In Friday May 8th from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday May 9th 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event, which will be held at Lynches River County Park, will teach all ages about prehistoric technologies and how people used to live. Admission is free and no registration is required.

The family friendly event will showcase numerous primitive skills practiced during the Stone Age. Flintknappers will be on site demonstrating the ancient art of making stone tools, like arrowheads. There will also be an artifact identification table, archaeology talk on Saturday, and demonstrations on ancient hunting techniques such as spear throwing.

Information for vendors: Please contact Michael Miller (michael@flintknappers.com | 330-224-0016) to register. The cost for vending is $15 and camping will be $8 per night. The park campground has a few electric hook-ups, hot showers, picnic tables and fire pits. They ask that you arrive before 5pm Thursday or Friday and pay for a campsite at the front desk in the Environmental Discovery Center. Vending spots will be 10X10 or 15X15 depending on your needs. The park has hundreds of visitors every weekend and the Archaeological Society of South Carolina has advertised the event heavily online, in local newspapers, radio and tv, as well as, with local scout groups, schools and clubs. We expect a great crowd. The city of Florence is a 15 minute drive for those who enjoy the comforts of a hotel. We will not have a food vendor on site so please plan accordingly.

Good chipping,
Michael Miller
