First bow

My first project was finished a while ago, but never got around to posting it.

Its linen backed ash board 68"NtN - 1"3/4 wide at the flare narrowing to 1/2 at the tip. 28# @ 28" (was aiming for 30#)

Photo's not very good, but here goes








Nock before finish was applied, with stringing groove.




I made a bunch of silly mistakes on the way, so never really thought it would get to the finish line, as such Ive come to call it "longshot"  :D
I'm sure I'll make some more mistakes on my current project, but hopefully not the same ones.

Thanks guys  :) I know a sub 30# bow won't set the world on fire, but good practise for bigger and better next time. I used the gizmo to tiller, so hopefully its OK.

It's got about 100 arrows through it, and definitely won't be the last already started on the next one :)

She's a real beauty! Tiller looks perfect.

If you wanted to get more weight just cut an inch (or 2) off each limb.....1" will probably get you + - 35 lbs...2" might get you closer to 40...you got the length to do it....reuse those nice tip overlays.....

How much set did it take? show us an unstrung shot...

Fine job. If you can within 10# on tour first bow you are doing well.
A couple of pounds here or there is nothing.

as was already said, very nicely done for a first bow. I dont think you have any tillering issues at all. If you look at your hand held full draw picture and the one on the tree you can see that you dont need the length you have ( bent way more on the tree) so shortening the limbs an inch or so would give you the weight you wanted......but..... as Dell said, a few pounds does not matter a bit.

@ Randman - Thanks for the comment, I thought briefly about spiking it to make weight but to be honest there is other things I'm not happy about so decided it would be better to plough on with the next one. As for the set just over an inch.

Not sure about an addiction, maybe more like lunacy. It's changed the way I think. I'm looking at things like pickaxe handles etc thinking how can I made a bow out of that. I never thought I'd be getting up at the crack of dawn on my day off to tack a wet rawhide on a board to stretch it out and thin it  :)
