heat treating question for laminated bows
« on: April 02, 2015, 03:19:57 pm »
There was a similar question asked on the site and my google-foo must be weak cause i can't find it. ..

When working with a laminated bow can you go back and steam/heat bend in some reflex?

The lamination was done with tb2... i read that tb3 can be heated and will actually be stronger after it REsets..

Will this happen with tb2?

If the bow is steamed/heated is there a great danger of delamination?

Can that be mitigated by wrapping the limbs with hemp? Sinew?

Start a new bow my friend.

I've heard of minor corrections being done with heat using TB but I've never done it. Mostly because I always hear,"don't get it too hot". What is too hot?

it will be a new one. . Should i do the reflex before the lamination?  Then when gluing on the backing strip hope it holds the reflex?

thank you sir!

This bow will be for my princess. . She shot a bow for the first time last weekend at Parnells house. .

She loved it so I'm gonna make her one. ..and ease her into stump shooting and then hunting. .

But she is a animal lover so the hunting will take a while. .. *(she will eat them but doesn't wanna know how they died. .. i told her those pork chops we had for supper weren't suicides.. lol. .)

TBI,II,III, all release at 150 deg(F). I've been told that they will strengthen at a higher temp but I have no experience with that.

if you want to heat treat the belly, do it prior to glue up.

Heat treat the belly before glue up and add the reflex at glue up. You don't have to pre-bend anything.
