Looking for a fleshing knife

Anyone have a good fleshing knife that's collecting dust.  I'm in dire need and would prefer not to have to buy a new one.  I have various trade goods (Osage staves, Tonkin cane, leather, string material, etc.,).

I have a cheap one that will not hold an edge.  I would prefer a longer one for beaver work.  Whatcha got?

I use a Neckers and have also heard good things about Post knives. Niether are cheap. The only thing that's cheap is Prime Beaver pelts Bob

Yep.  See a lot of people using a Necker.  I have read that the Post and the Caribou are top notch also.  I rounded up an old scythe blade last nite.  I am going to try to make one that will hold an edge.  One thing is for sure, I can guarantee it wont be pretty!

Made this today.  Old scythe blade.  I TIG welded two tangs on it and put screw on file handles on it, then added epoxy.  I already cut myself with it.  We'll see how it does on beaver when I thaw out some pelts.

Well, I thawed a beaver pelt and tried it out.  Finished it up without having to re-sharpen.  The blade still needs refined just a bit, but I think it is a keeper.  I have another blade from Austria that has potential as well.  I trapped another beaver this morning, so I'll give it another go here in a day or so.

Let's see the finished plumes    You picked a good time to try a new knife on beavers. Nafa sale this weekend and beaver and all furs in general was a bust unless ya got some nice clear belly western coyotes. Fur is cheap, cheap, wished I would sent all mine to the tannery this yr. Bob
