This past fall I got a bunch of deer back fat from the same game processor who saves me back sinew, and I made soap out of it. If anyone's interested, I'm offering 18 bars of soap for trade. I'd love to get one or more straight, clean, seasoned staves, hard maple arrow shafts or some hunting-quality stone arrowheads, but would be open to other trade items too. The soap is made from a mix of deer back fat, olive oil, coconut oil, lye, and a small amount of conifer essential oils (pine, fir, spruce, cedar) added as a fragrance. I didn't add any dyes, although many of the bars ended up with a little red pigment on one side because I set them out to cure on cardboard that had red lettering and the soap absorbed some of the color from the lettering.
