Another one bites the dust! :@
« on: April 25, 2015, 06:39:32 am »
Hiya sadly the white oak bow I was posting about recently went bang today. It is a shame as it was shooting beautifully (tho a little light. Happily when it broke it didn't give me a black eye!
I'm not too fussed tho as my last hazel bow has turned out to be a shooter! :D (I'll post pics soon)

Hi Dave not really. I had started to back it with brown paper but gave up after one sheet. The board had straight grain and the back was immaculate. I'm guessing that there was a flaw in my tiller and with the short working limb it was just too much stress on that point.

The side grain is as important as the back grain, maybe more so because of the bending direction.

Well, dang it.  Sounds like you are taking it well, though.  Atta boy, go get another piece of wood and make another!
