Grumley styled static recurve
« on: March 14, 2015, 09:34:31 am »
Finally wrapped this one up and shot it a bunch. I like it.

62.5" ntn

57 @ 28"

Deer rawhide from Mr Pat - Thanks sir, looks incredible on there.
Osage stave came from Clint's 1990 something stash, thanks Yoder
Overlays are piano ivory. Very thin and light, but brittle.

I used Uni Bond for the brush knocks and titebond 3 for the rawhide. Tiny sinew wraps hold the ends of the rawhide in place. It shoots like any other self static really. The added weight on the belly is near equal to overlays on the back, maybe a fuzz heavier. It'll kill a deer and that's all I build bows for.

Thanks for looking. Ill answer any questions I can.

Very cool bow, Pearlie. I really like that blotchy look of the rawhide.

You know Pat, that stuff fought me like a dog during the application process. I thought sure Id unwrap to a wrinkly mess. Turns out it was the best rawhide job yet. The colors and clarity are amazing and I only had a few spots to fix up with ca glue.

That bow turned out great Pearl Grums.  I will be expecting to see a picture of it laying across a deer this fall.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Cool!  Came out looking super nice and the tiller seals the deal, flawless looking bend.
How'd you get that look on the rawhide? really like it. Tips are especially nice too.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.
