In search of YEW
« on: February 13, 2015, 09:49:32 pm »
I'd really like to work with yew and get some nice yew bows.  I love the sap/heart combo.  I prefer split but am open to sawn staves, and would like one at least 74-76".  Doesn't have to be really big, 1.5-2" wide is fine.   I've got a nice knife I made I'm willing to trade.  Its a medieval recreation based off one they dug up in an english river.  Its as authentic as I could get it, but took some artistic liberty, i.e. fewer pins, making them all true pins instead of false pins, the choice of wood (which was unknown).  I even used hide glue, but make no mistake its quite sturdy.  Included is a period inspired sheath.

I have only two strict requirements.  1st is at least 2-3 coats of sealant all the way around.  This is my 5th attempt now to obtain a yew stave, and eventually people will believe me when I say AZ is very dry.  It will crack.  The other strict requirement is that there are no significant cracks.

The knife is worth ~$250-300 so I'd like to get two staves, and can also offer obsidian to sweeten the pot.

I'll try and get more pictures later, I've got to resize them though

Wow, wish I had some yew to trade!  Besides getting an awesome knife, that would mean that I had too much yew...
