Osage Reworked (Pics)
« on: January 21, 2008, 07:23:38 pm »
I finally got finished reworking my osage bow that I started at last years Classic. It was a good bow but had a little handshock.I had a Ferrit's Floppy rest on it with maple tip overlays, and a heathy 5/8''tips.I took 1'' off each end to pic up a few pounds of draw weight then tapered from mid limb to the tips. The tips have deer antler overlays and are a 1/2''@ the tip but just a fraction over 3/8''@ the string nocks. The bow is braced at 6'' and is pulling 50#@26''.This is another discovery for me.I don't draw a bow as far as I thought I did.My draw length is right at 26''.I used Gordon's golf tee idea for a rest(thanks Gordon).I'm sure I did'nt do it justice but it still turned out.I also redid my leather grip.I named the bow Deer Whisperer.LOL.I love this bow now.Its a sweet shooter and I can hit pretty good with it out to about 20/25 yards.tradrick

Great looking bow. What is up with the black strips sticking up from the handle wrap?  Nice shirt too. Justin

Thanks guys,Tom Sawyer's right. It is a splice.A W joint done by Gary Davis.A bow blank I bought off him from last years Classic. He's the one responseable for getting me hooked.I can't wait till this years Classic.Wanting to do a bow from stave to bow.I guess I'll get some more practice on some board bows until then.I'm almost done with the first board bow.Turned out to be a kids bow because I goofed on the tillering.I'll post pics of it when I'm done.tradrick

That's a nice bow, good job bringing her back to life. Nice job on the tips, I look now at some of the first bows I made and can't believe how massive the tips were. :o
