I had really hoped to create a bow with local materials from here in Utah.  But fungus has infiltrated my seasoned staves--I think it was there to begin with--and my other elm staves are not dry yet.  So I have gone to my backup plan.  My guy is going to get my Sidewinder osage stave, and it is the right decision, since this wood is sooo much better that what I was working with.  I have it tillered out to 22 inches so far and low brace.  It has a little snakey at one end and it is feeling super solid and is starting to look really good. It will be hard to let it go.  Whoever has me, send me a good one to help me get over the loss. . .

I cut a juniper stave near Cedar City last week too. And I am loving working with the osage.  I will have to find more of that, too.  We should plant some groves and wait 50 years.  I have some more elm from another tree too and it looks much better-just not dry yet. I want to try some yew sometime too.  I will take a bunch of pictures before I send this one off.

You get some funny looks dropping off an 80" pvc pipe at the post office. But mine is shipped, I hope my guy enjoys.

Yeah, I can't wait to see their faces either. Mine won't fit in a 2in pvc. Probably more like 4 or 5 inch. I didn't think about shipping when I put the curves in. May have to build a shipping container. Patrick

I almost feel ashamed. I heated in the final reflex, thought I'd go with a high reflex design this time, but when I realized putting it in the tube would be impossible I deflexed the handle. I feel like a cheater :o

Tillered to about twenty inches again, good smooth motion so far. Using the heavy sandpaper over the scraper right now, there are a couple funny spots with undulating ring thickness I need to touch up.
