Ahh that sucks mike.  I got burned with a $400 value which translated to a $60 duty on last years bow trade.  I feel like i mentioned it at the beginning of this trade to try keep the values low on international packages.

Well guy's, mine is looking pretty good. It's at 55at 25 right now. Got the tip overlays put on at mojam. Dvshunter used my bow for an overly demonstration. But only done one. I got a little bit more to do on the overlays then it's back to tillering. I've shot it some at 24 Inches and it's pretty sweet. Hopefully be done this week. Patrick

Just got back from an 11 day vacation last night.  I'll get mine tillered and finished up this weekend, and sprayed the beginning of next week.

While the Osage bow rest after it's date with the heat gun. I picked up this blank and started taking meat off the belly.

Ok here is where we are on this bow. It is not done and needs more wood to come off but the tips are moving. If all goes well it will be tillered out this weekend. I might toast the belly. I am also contemplating trapping the back. I think now is the time to do that.

If I do I think I would do a .25" of each edge. Don’t know if I will but I need to make my mind up on that before i go any further, I don’t need it to be light.

The handle has some meat left on it, but that is what I was taught. Refine tips and handles last no need to waste that work if the stave does not want to be a bow.



So trap the back yes no?

Got mine all dolled up, I just want to shoot it some more then it'll be ready to ship Monday. I will say that a coat of truoil sure makes beaver tail look good.

Patrick, whoever gets that bow you were working on at mojam is gonna be a happy camper. That thing was beautiful. I was asking everyone about it and eventually found out it was yours.

I tried the vinegaroon.  It came out very splotchy, so I just went with black dye.  Well it worked.  The bow is very very black haha.  I'll let it set in a bit, oil it, wax it, then tool a grip for it, and it'll be ready to go!  Aiming to have it ready to go in a week or so.

Well, I finally completed my inagural trade bow. Long time coming, but I'm pretty happy with the result, and I hope the recipient is too! This is a bow of many firsts - first stiff handle, first yew bow, first true (if super small) recurve and first trade bow. Took around 1" of set, on top of the deflex in the stave to begin with, but on the upside it is SUPER smooth (by my standards) and still hits like a truck, where I'm looking at. Stave is just about 59.5 ntn" after recurving and the draw is around 55# at 27" (I'm not super confident in my weighing setup, but its easily over 50 at my 26" draw length). Here's a few sneak peaks - the strung profile looks a bit lopsided, but the bottom limb stretches out pretty well in the full draw. I'll leave that part for my victim though  :D  Thanks for a fun trade everyone (especially to the organizers!), looking forward to next year!
