No, I put that middle  knot right in the center of the handle. This knot had just grown over in the back, maybe withing the last year or two, and was not visible in the belly until I really dug into the stave.  The surprises of wood.

Knots are weird sometimes.  Just had a knot pop completely off when I floor tillered the bow. It was near the fade and took some of the back with it when it popped off.  However the bow still bends without a problem so I think I will eventually finish the bow. No clue what I will do with it with the gouge in the back and all but I will finish it just to see what happens.

Put some sawdust and wood glue in the gouge and wrap it

My take down sleeve and handle seem to be nice and solid. I'll find out tonight if the rest of the bow will survive.

No, Copper sleeve, Denim micarta over the copper sleeve. The sleeve is not what I am worried about. In thinning the limbs I found a few checks on the belly of the top limb. The back of the top limb is also showing a few   :-\. It seems almost the right weight. I'll throw it on the tree tonight and see how it bends, if it gets through 100 or so shots i'll back it. Lots of work to have little surprises show up. I have lots more wood, just crappy to blow all that work.

Warm the wood up with a heat gun. Just warm, not hot. Then apply  your super glue  to the checks until it won't take any more glue. Warming it will swell the wood a touch and open the cracks. They will shrink when in cools. As long as they are liner and don't run  off the edge that will fix the problem. Then you could back it if you want to. Good luck and post some pics. Patrick

When it was just one on the belly I wasn't concerned. Then there were a few on the back and another on the belly. None run off the limbs, and non run across the grain.

I would do the superglue thing then back it with someone rawhide to be safe. Shouldn't be a problem after that. I built my niece a little D bow that had a crack about 12 in long I superglued it and backed it with a silk tie. It shoots great! Patrick

OK, belly, then back. Dye showed me the back cracks, that is why they are black. The knots are in different spots.

Looks like you got plenty of glue in them. I would clean up the dried glue and put some good rawhide on with hide glue. Before I done any more bending and that should keep them locked down tight. Patrick

Well got plan A to brace and is about ten lbs heavy,needs some scraping.ugly deflex came back after exercising. Gonna put her back on the rack and reheat after I bring the weight down a bit.i am going for a holmgaard tiller with a stiff handle so it's farely stressed design.gonna do like I have in past years and use time alotted ,make a number of bows then ship the. Best unless I get lucky early on.
