Man I hope you get to feeling better.
I really liked the way the hhb felt at the shot with this bow. I will shoot it in some more . And then get to finishing it up and maybe end up being the first to ship again for the third year in a row.lol.

It's taking a little while to make much progress with 2 other bows going on but it's coming along. It's starting to flex a little. I'm hoping to have it flor tillered tonight and do a little straightening in the morning. It seems to take longer than expected when the temperature wants to drop into the 20s or lower when you have time to work.

I've ha a heck of a time getting this wood to bend >:D steamed it today for about an hour and still had I break. Good thing it. Started out as 2, 39 1/2 billets. Down to a total length of 72. Tried dry heat, broke, tried steam, broke. Now what?

If your trying to recurve the tips  you could try to boil them. Never done it myself but plan to on the next one I do. Patrick

Yeah, trying to put some re-curves on it. Tried all the ways I have done it before.

Black locust, right,  Jojo?
I've not worked  that stuff before.  But I know someone who has and I'm pretty sure he boils his tips.
I've always heard that black locust is a lot like Osage but not sure myself. I know that Osage works well with dry heat and some oil.
Also try reducing the thickness if you haven't already.  PatB told me once, to try and get the belly side to one ring before trying to bend it.  Maybe someone with more experience with BL will chime in. Patrick

I steamed a piece of 8 yr old bl. And man it's got hooks. Steam or boil. I grease it steam for 40 mins and bend her. If it don't wanna go all the way do it again.

I steamed, and it didn't work lol. Belly and back were single ring at the bend. I guess I'll try boiling. The sleeve is looking sweet.

Maybe a problem with your rig. Lets see some pics. Perhaps all the bend is in one spot and thats the problem.

Well I got out today and shot the HHB some more. And got it all stained up and going to start putting on the clear coat maybe tomorrow.

Here are pictures of my steamer and my (one of) jigs. The heat source is a crock grill ($5 at a thrift store, heats to 600f) a 2 gallon stainless pot and lid. PVC pipe. The jig is just a 2X4 cut with a 4.5 inch radius. I clamp the tip to the jig and then bend by hand. Both limbs initially bent well, and then cracked shortly after.

Curve has sharp edges and that is no good. Blend the curve into the flat of the 2x4. The abrupt charge focuses tje streas in two spots.
