That sucks clint. It was a pretty piece too. Even more surprised that it broke at 15 in. I assume that is "all the way back" for your t Rex arms. ::)

Yup, I'd call that a tension failure. The picture where you put the pieces back together shows it. It failed in tension, then radiated down the limbs in both directions, leaving the little peak in the belly piece right under the failure.

Man, too bad on that one Clint. Good thing you did'nt impale yourself with it. Now ifn that had been southern kansas osage it prolly would held together... >:D

I was going to say...but... it would have made a beautiful gun stock...  :laugh: :laugh: got ya buddy, I know, you did the best possible, I have no doubt about it.  it was just a bastard of a piece of osage for a bow.  Good for you, for giving it a try.  I bet curly osage is very rare.  If you have a piece big enough to make a gun stock out of someone's bound to want it. I can just imagine it finished with a little age on it.  Hell, if I was still making muzzle loaders I would trade you big time for it, I can see a beautiful Hawkins stock out of it.

It broke at full draw DVS.  That's about 24" for my T-rex arms  ;)

I know from making flintlocks that curly wood is a mixture of wood as hard as a brick and wood that is very soft and weak.

Save your broken bow for tip overlays and handles, curly osage makes spectacular overlays.

Hi OO, Just curious to what the dimensions (width and length) were? I have seen some curly wood bows survive, and others that break in tension or chrysal.
