"Staghorn" Bow for my friend
« on: January 31, 2015, 12:05:51 am »
About a year ago my friend wanted to go test out his new wildlife motion activated camera. (what ever it's called).  We went hiking to set it up and while we were looking for a good spot I noticed something on the ground....I took off running toward the object and sure enough it was exactly what I hoped it was.  A deer antler!  A nice shed just sitting there for me to claim it!   I held it up and yelled to my friend.  "Dude! Check it out!"  He was so jealous.  He came running over with eyes wide and said "Ah man I HATE YOU!" with a big envious smile.  He just kept saying it.

It was awesome.  I love to be the guy to find stuff for once!

Anyway he is a good friend.  He loves to hunt and he loves bow hunting.   He's been using a compound bow.

Since that day I've been meaning to make him a bow.  Since he liked the antler so much I decided to use it in some way on the bow.

I finally got around to building it and this is what I came up with.   You should have seen his face when I gave it to him.  It was awesome!

I told him I was going to convert him to traditional archery.  He said: "Well this just might do it!" with a big grin.

Wow! That is really clean  8) I like every thing about it.  Your finish work is perfect.  He can have the antler, I would keep the bow >:D

Wowza, nice tillering job.  You must be a "deer" friend to make that for him!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Nice job on that hickory. That oughta make it easy for him to make the switch from the wheelie. ;)
