Sinew Backing Osage Question

I am getting close to sinew backing an osage orange 45 inch re-curved bow that has one thick growth ring as its back.
Should I score the ring first or just put the sinew on the smooth ring surface?

I hit mine with 60 grit lightly. I don't degrease the back either. I use quality homemade hide glue.

I think degreasing the back is a good idea,,, even when putting rawhide
as far as scoring the back,, I have always done that with positive results,,,, but have read it might no be necessary,,, :)

Yes take an awl and score the back with a cross hatch pattern, then before applying sinew run a layer of hide glue over the scoring this will fill in the grooves and give you a layer that will help adhere your hide glue soaked sinew to the bows back.
