My nieces first Bow, my first bendy!
« on: January 19, 2015, 03:40:22 am »
Back I July at mojam, Dvshunter gifted me an Osage stave. I couldn't  wait to get into it when I got home. I looked it over several times and decided I wanted to make me a reflex deflex bendy with a sinew backing for turkey hunting. So I chased a ring and laid my bow out. I realized I could split off one side and maybe make another bow from that piece.

A couple weeks ago my niece showed some interest in shooting. I let her shoot another bow I had. She was able to do really good and asked if she could have one for herself. So the other day I picked up the split off piece and started working out this little bow. It only took me about 2 hours to whittle this thing out and have it tillered to 22 inches. I decided to put a little reflex in the tips. I also decided since she likes gold, I backed it with a sparkly gold silk tie I had. Now I don't have all the finish work done so no close up just yet. But I will post more pics when I get it done. Patrick

If you look closely you can see the arrow in flight in front of my truck.

A little instruction and she looks pretty good! Shooting at like 4 yards she was able to hit about a 2 in spot with every shot!

Thanks Donald, I am very pleased with the tiller on this one. I was surprised at her form, that is all natural too. And she has never shot a bow till a few weeks ago! Patrick

Woo... just two hours to tiller that :o It's gorgeous... I'd have been at it for a week :(.
Sparkly gold silk tie :o (bet you're relieved to find a good use for that  ;) )
Great to see the girls shooting.
Good job passing it on.

Thanks Del, 2 hours is a land speed record for me for sure. But I want you to know that I probably could have braced the split off and it would have been about  60 lbs. Good thing about the tie,  it wasn't mine. I actually got it at a thrift store to see  if it could be used for backing.  I also have a black one with pink stripes!  Patrick

Patrick,
You did good to flip those tips.  Made it nice to get that draw length out of it.  And she does have good form, she's getting a lot of bend out of it in that full draw pic.
Well done,
DBar

I got to shoot that bow. Lotta fun. I bet with a good broadhead it would take a turkey ( close range and not frozen already ).

Good work Patrick.   It's terrific to see someone helping the younger generation get involved in archery.  Congrats to you both.

Thanks DBar, it was a fun little project. I'm learning a thing or two with every one. I think she will be a crack shot.

Sleek, your right. It has a pretty good zip for 17 lbs! Don't think it would fair well with a frozen bird. Definitely have to be a live one.

Drewster, I appreciate it bud! Plus it's fun to see someone learn archery! Patrick
