New guy, Hickory molly/pyr hybrid
« on: January 18, 2015, 05:32:29 pm »
Hey everyone, I'm a relatively new bowyer, made less than a dozen so far.  Here is the last bow I finished.  Its a molly/pyramid hybrid with shorter levers, maybe 6-7" and sinew wrapped nocks and its slightly trapped with a tempered belly.  Its not perfect but I measured 145 fps with a 515gn arrow.  I was hoping for higher and maybe my chronograph isn't working right but that's acceptable right?

Certainly looks like good tiller, but maybe you can remove mass from the levers? The mark of a good molle is light, very narrow levers. Perhaps a front profile shot could help?

Levers also don't need to be much more than double the thickness of the working limb to be completely stiff and lever-like, and can be tapered toward the tip just slightly. Lots of time refining a scrape at a time can get you the perfect lever if you don't have the experience to just whack it out.

Mollegabets all day long.
Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Yes they taper to about 1/4x1/4 at the tip and are much thinner width than the working limb.

Its a fine bow to me. 145 fps is probably faster than any bow I've made. How heavy is the draw weight?

Is the top limb longer than the bottom?
