Can you re-glue sanding belts?

I'm about to trade for a grizzly belt sander and it comes with a bunch of belts.  On most of them the glue on the joint has let go.  I'm guessing they are pretty old but in good shape besides the joint.  Can you re-glue them?  If so what glue should I use?  I would hate to throw a dozen belts away.

I would think that gorilla glue or contact cement would work, but I have never tried it so no guarantee from me, LOL.

There shouldn't be a tremendous amount of strain applied to the glue joint since the pressure is applied perpendicular to the  joint and with the plate behind it supporting it. The glue just need to hold the belt together.

Others may have first hand experience with it though. Although my thought is there is no harm in trying. Worse that happens is it doesn't work. I don't think it would be dangerous like trying to mend a band saw blade or something.

Contact cement and tuck(red) poly tape for vapour barrier.. Used it lots works good

I had one come apart some time back. It has a cloth back. I applied a little epoxy to it, sandwiched it between two sawed rocks and let it sit for 24 hrs. It is working fine.

I have tried super glue on sanding drums. Heat makes the glue fail. With a larger area you may be ok.

Clint, I'd be afraid to try re-gluing the belts. If the joint comes apart at high speed it could injure you.

I'm willing to give it a try Pat.  I'll wear something to protect my important parts  ;D  If I show up at the classic covered in road rash you will know that they didn't hold up.

I would unplug it, put the belt on, turn the switch on, stand aside and then plug it in. Let it run for an undetermined time. Sounds risky to me. Trying to get an accurate glue joint may be tough too. If it's cocked off to one side, even a bit, it will never run true.
