Don't forget about Maple, Bamboo and Ironwood for composite horn bows.

I'd go with yew or osage.
More importantly I'd pick the straightest stave.

I hate to take off the sapwood from an expensive yew stave and I have an elm but not the best stave and sinews not cheap.
I have a osage 45 inch which has thick rings and is straight. With this in mind could a sinew backed osage have a 24 inch draw??

I have a 47" sinew backed osage that pulls 26".
Be sure to flip the tips a little.

Thanks Pat. What stress does flipping the tips reduce?

It will add a bit more stress but the sinew can handle that. Flipping the tips will decease the string angle making it more comfortable o shoot and gives you more draw length on a short bow.

Juniper and sinew is awesome. If you can get the heartwood you are onto a winner!
Maybe you could trade with somebody for one?
