bow for 5 year old girl
« on: December 31, 2014, 07:45:38 pm »
So im hanging out at my buddies house who has his nieces over to visit. The youngest niece who is 5 took note of a bow I had in my hand. She asked what it was and of course I told her its a bow. She asked, how do you make them? I said I carve them out of wood. Then she looks at the osage bow I had handed her and says with big eyes only kids can do, " Can you make me one?"  She saw another I had made thats my buddies wall hanger ( erc with too many bug holes to trust ) and asked for one like that. I think she liked the purple. Then she realized her manners and said, you can make me any bow you want too."

Woke up this morning and got to work. I had been asking on another thread I made about bamboo backed erc. Scratch that, I have more important things to do with this wood now. I cut it down in size to wliminate most the twist. Then carved opposite sides of the twist to bring the profile around. After cleaning up the back and a light sanding it came out 15#@ 17" 39" ntn. That should do it. Plan to give it to her tonight.  She also requested bamboo arrows. Made her a set of three. I will get her at full draw tonight and post.

With an arrow. Its difficult to teach a kid not to use their finger on the arrow to keep it in place. She will get hang of it though.
