black locust, 32# 28"
« on: December 14, 2014, 11:32:51 am »

This is my first post my name is Hans and I've made a workshop at simson's, where I've made an osage static for me. Simon inspired me lurking around PA - and here Iam.
Here is the first bow I made myself, it turned out a little lightweight so it fits perfectly for my wife.
It's a black locust 64” long with a nice character at the handle area in it. The recurves are steamed it and then a bit heat treated. Overlays are buffalo, grip is buck skin.

Hope you like it

hey Hans, nice to see you here my friend.
You have done a pretty fine job here.

Welcome here on board!

@ all others: Hans is heavily caught by the bowmaking virus, I know he is already on the next one a chinese stink tree (ailanthus altissima). We will see what he 's doing with that stick ....

I can see Simons influence on your bow, he is a perfect person to learn from. Nice bow Hans!

How long did it take you to recurve those limbs?
This apprentice has much to learn.

Awesome Bow!  Great job!  You are learning from one of the very best!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Thanks a lot for all kind compliments!
I know that the overlays are a bit too heavy and the lower limb bends a bit too much.
Yes, it`s a pleasure to know Simon and his also great family. I`ll try to learn from him so much as possible 
>Parnell:  yes, it`s the first bow I made myself, except the one in the workshop.
>xpertbushman:  each limb was steamed for ~30 Minutes and than for ~10 hours fixed in a caul to dry.
