3 question that just poped to my head...
« on: December 11, 2014, 11:49:58 am »
Hi guys.

1) I'm tillring an ipe bow and found a smell pin knot on the belly. Is it going to fail there or ipe can handle it?

2) All of my bows are tillered to f.d at 26". Assuming I want to go for a shoot with s friend that has a draw of 29" how safe is to give him a bow to shoot (I know overdrawing is never good but...). If the bow is retillered will it be any safer?

3) Is it ok to steam a reflex to a bow after tillering is done?

The following are purely my opinions

1) don't worry about it.  Maybe leave it thick but without photos I can't really diagnose

2)Make a bow specifically for your friend.

3)Yes, but you might need to go back and retiller
Florida to Kwajalein to Turkey and back in Florida again.  Good to be home but man was that an adventure!

Mine too
A while back I made a bow for a lady, originally 30# at 26" then the spec' crept up to 35# @ 26"
Next thing I'm being asked "will it pull to 28"
I said probably, but there is only one way to find out and no guarantees.
Well it did hold up for about 3 months and shot blisteringly fast until it exploded!
She was a sad lady, but I said
"Your a real archer now you've had one explode in your hand" (I'm sure some of you will add your own joke in there :-* ::) )
She's got one of my other bows now (tested out to a full 29")

No, she only draws 28" but that is warbow style for roving marks shooting.
Our English wenches don't mess about you know ;)
