I hope my bandsaw isn't dead.

So, the main axle in my vintage 80" blade Craftsman bandsaw wore a groove and I had to do some repairs and replace a bearing and a clip.  Well, it seems that the axle is screwed and I'll have to find another.  I got it all back together, but there is a wobble and the blade wants to rock off the wheels.

I checked out the internet and it is starting to appear that this may not be a piece easily found.

Any suggestions, folks?

Have you adjusted the center screw on the top wheel? adjusting it moves the wheel camber a bit, enough that the blade will try to walk off if it isn't just right.

I had a wobble problem on my old 12" craftsman.  The key that held the bottom wheel on the shaft wasn't in far enough and let the bottom wheel wobble.  Once I figure that out I replaced the key and filed the grooves out of the slot and it smoothed out.  The guy I bought it from must have had the same problem.  I found epoxy on the key and slot.

You may be able to get someone to make you a new one based on some dimensions.

I had the same thing, I built my up with a welder and ground and polished it back down to size, been working for several years since I did it. :)

I did find a replacement part for a very fair price.  Interesting you built that up, Pappy.  Did you have trouble making sure the diameter was uniform all the way around?

No ,just over built it [like I do my bows]  ;) :) :) and brought it back where I wanted it. :)

     There ya go!  Just send the old one to Pappy, and then you will have a spare! ;)  I'm sure Pappy wouldn't charge much more, than your first male child. ;)
